Teaching is more than a job; it is my passion. Teaching is all I have dreamt of doing. My dream grew as I progressed through elementary school. I had outstanding teachers who read books, sang songs, and instilled a pride in learning. In middle and high school, I was surrounded by educators who encouraged creative thinking and problem-solving. They encouraged activism and hard-work. I went on to SC State University and graduated cum laude with a degree in elementary education. The program taught me the ART and SCIENCE of teaching. They imparted the idea that for me to be a master teacher, I must know my subject, but teach students. I cultivate young minds. Therefore, armored by a rich heritage, a strong desire, and a devotion to become a beacon for young minds, I entered the classroom.
Now, 28 years and a Masters Degree later, I am still living my dream in the best profession in the world. I have the ability to change the world one student at a time; and I consider it an honor. I thrive on making a difference, and am humbled to have met so many valuable educators and to have touched the lives of so many students. I’ve met and worked with prominent legislators, and have held many leadership positions. I have presented on the state and national level and I take this profession seriously. I’ve been a National Board Certified Teacher and a finalist for Teacher of the Year.
At this point in my career, I want to “pay it forward”. It is my desire to work with teachers (especially new teachers and career changers) and help them with the pedagogy and strategies necessary to be successful teachers. I want to instill my passion for teaching into the teachers of tomorrow. Ideally, these teachers will positively impact student achievement and, literally, change the world one student at a time! Come see me so we can pursue this passion together!
